GOOD WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT IS GOOD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

Manufacturing and industrial activities in nearby Mobile improve economic development activity in our region increasing the demand for a skilled, competitive workforce.

A community is only as strong as its people, and we aim to ensure that every Atmore Area student is given the skills they need to be an Atmore employee—connecting courses with career pathways, putting education in context, and pairing academic concepts with real-world application. As Atmore Area students continue to set themselves apart, businesses will increasingly find Atmore an attractive place to call home; and as Atmore Area businesses continue to engage in education and skills training, our students are given even greater chances to succeed and connect with valuable career opportunities. Coastal Alabama Community College serves Escambia, Baldwin, and Monroe counties. Coastal Alabama has begun a long-term expansion of the Atmore campus to offer technology courses that provide skilled labor to local industries. Phase One, currently underway, offers state-of-the-art machine tool equipment technology courses to support these industries. Phase Two involves design, construction, and upgrade of existing facilities to support workforce development efforts in Atmore and surrounding communities. Atmore will be able to provide a well-trained labor force within commuting distance of these industrial facilities.

Escambia County High School offers a curriculum in the areas of culinary arts, a certified nursing assistant program, a cosmetology program, and a welding program. All of these courses offer high school graduates the opportunity to enter the workforce after graduation. Escambia County Middle School’s collaboration lab is in its third year. The STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and math)

Reid State Technical College in Evergreen offers a broad area of study for trades including welding, technology, commercial truck driving, cosmetology, child development, and education, industrial electricity and electronics, health careers, practical nursing, industrial maintenance, and office systems technology.
